Google Sign-in Becomes more secure

Starting from today Google have started rolling out a new security feature for all Gmail users. It is called as 2-step verification process. It definitely makes it more difficult for anyone to get around into your email account. But it wouldn't be a nice idea to lose your mobile phone along with your email account password.

Once the feature is available for you there will be a notifications in the Accounts Settings page.

Google themselves feel the process of setting up this new layer of security might take about 15 minutes.
After entering your password, Google will call you with the code, send you an SMS message or give you the choice to generate the code for yourself using a mobile application on your Android, BlackBerry or iPhone device.
Essentially what the 2 step verification does is to verify your identity with your mobile phone. So the chance of your email account being hacked is highly unlikely unless you try to keep yourselves away from your phone.

a few months ago a series of email accounts fell to hackers who sent spam messages to everyone in the victims contact list. This was really bad situation , in some cases people had to close the account and start a new one entirely ( happened to one of my friends ). However such scams cannot be done so easily in the future with the new 2 step verification. Because the hacker has to be aware of the victim's email account password and the code being sent to the victim's mobile phone.
So the next time you lose your mobile phone be sure to call the service provider immediately to stop your SIM operation and change your Gmail password. In the mean time check http://www.staysafeonline.org/ recommended by Google.
