1984 won't be like 1984

Back in 1984 when personal computers were not an essential household item but that was to change. The change started with Apple Inc. (no it was not Microsoft). As always Steve Jobs knew how to catch everyone's attention even in the starting era of computers. They released an Ad which played during the break of Super Bowl marketing the unknown gem which was going to be showcased to the world - Macintosh. And they were right 1984 won't be like 1984, anymore. In short Macintosh started the change in world of personal computing.

The 1984 ad campaign by Apple was such a success that it is even used today ,well basically against Apple Inc itself. Many people still relate Apple Inc to that one ad which showed something big was coming. There have been few ads which try to steal the show from Apple which has been extremely successful in the last decade. Some of them are below.
1. First jab against Apple was from San-disk protesting the huge market share of Apple in the Music player segment. Instead of spending on R&D San-disk thought it would not hurt if they spent a little on marketing the 'iDont' Campaign. They published a website in this regard back in 2007(now it is taken down). The website had 'cool' wallpapers about iChimps and to stop the domination of the iPods. But the iPod was too big a phenomenon to be stopped by colorful websites and T-shirts. iPod still holds the numero uno position and it doesn't look it will lose the crown anytime soon.
2.After the music-player industry what else does Apple dominate? right now they are the leaders in the Tablet space. And not many posed a threat to the iPad in 2010. 2011 is going to be a lot different. Motorola Xoom shows some promise in this space. But they were clueless as to what they must be marketing. Hence they make a direct reference to Apples 1984 ad and state -' 2011 is a lot like 1984'. But this time Big Brother is Apple itself. Also this was aired during the Super Bowl again. Watch the Ad below.
