Back on Feb9th 2011, Google debuted their version of a social network - Google Buzz. This was not a success at any level but Google has released an recommendation button to the entire Internet. With the +1 button you can show your friends or see what your friends feel are interesting on the internet.
"+1" serves as a good recommendation tool as it is connected through the Google network of services. "+1" is not only for the websites on browsers but also on Android,Blogger, Product search and YouTube. Thus with a single click we can recommend items, websites, apps and blogs to friends and other contacts. "+1" can also be used as a bookmarking tool by giving +1 to the sites you need to bookmark. You can then view the sites given a "+1" in your Google profile page.
Google also has partnered with some websites to use the "+1" buttons for sharing content. Also, they have made code available to webmasters to place the "+1" button on their sites. However, to experience the search results and ads based on the +1 recommendation you have to join one of the experimental search ideas. You can do that here.
Basically +1 button is shorthand for "this is pretty cool" or "you should check this out." wait, this reminds us of something else - Yes, Facebook's Like button. We all remember the effort of Google Buzz to counter the growing popularism of Facebook. Buzz was released mainly to produce an alternative Facebook, world's largest social networking site-then and even now. However Buzz created buzz for all the wrong reasons. In the beginning, Google ,in an effort to reduce the number of registration steps, made people to follow some set of people automatically based on previous mail conversations. This didn't go down very well with a lot of users. Atlast, Google ended up scrapping this feature altogether.
Now, Google wants to stop the advancing act of Facebook on the internet. But,+1 is not the one which can arrest the growth of Facebook. Recently Facebook, showed off the stats of the "Like" button and how it has impacted Facebook and users alike. It is reported that
If Google is really planning to compete with social networking giant Facebook, +1 seems to be the likely beginning. The 2 companies already locking horns more than a couple of times, the fight is getting more interested. Presently, Facebook wears the social-networking crown until someone does something about it.
