Back in last November, many members of the Wikileaks group left due to disagreements with Julian Assange. Openleaks is what happened because of these members. The website claims to be different from Wikileaks, really?
In a way yes it is different but at the end of the day it is the same result- Confidential material of political, ethical, diplomatic or historical significance of a Nation are made open to the public. Openleaks is trying to provide a platform for people who are willing to share confidential information with the public. Wikileaks prefers to put these documents on their site or mirrored sites while Openleaks will hand the information to another individual or group who will in-turn give it to the public. By a group we think it will be a News group or a NGO which is ready to take fire from the government(s). Openleaks doesn't like to put these information on their because they don't have any political agenda. Basically Wikileaks acquires the confidential documents and makes them public however Openleaks will only acquire the confidential papers and make it available to others who are ready to make these papers public.
Ironically, the Openleaks website going live is due to a leaked report .As you can see in the screens, the site was yet to be finished. However now it has been completed even with a video outlining it's working. January was supposed to be for the beta testing and they intend to become fully functional by March.
Openleaks is an idea born out of Wikileaks. Some kind of tweaking to abide by the law at the same time whistle-blowing. But it still remains a doubt whether Openleaks can get a viral following like what Wikileaks enjoyed in 2010. Or,maybe they don't the limelight. Will any organization really stand against powerful ( read as US) government(s) to give secret information to the public? Whatever is the answer t the question we will definitely be Silently Watching .
