A special interview with Y(A Bangalorean who knows about the Metro project well) by Sachin(Me who wants to know all about it)...
Sachin: What is Namma Metro?
Y: It’s a mass-transit rail system project which hopes to give a solution to the biggest problem of Bangalore, the traffic.
Sachin: What is the cost of this project?
Y: It’s roughly around `8158 Crore
Sachin: What is the maSachinimum capacity that it can withstand? Essentially we want to how many people will be benefited?
Sachin: Are the tickets prices affordable to the common man?
Y: Yes they are! They have already been announced. Also there are passes which allow you travel in both BMTC (BMTC would be the biggest loser after Metro) and Metro (`70 for non-AC buses and `110 for AC buses). Which I feel is affordable.
Sachin: There are many complaints that Metro is affecting traffic in many areas. People have to wait for an hour in signals like nayandahalli, sarakki which was not seen earlier.
Y: This is common during all developmental works. But I have to agree that traffic havoc created by the metro project is quite a lot. Mainly because of slow work.
Sachin: Many trees and buildings have been demolished for this work. Do you think it was necessary to cut down trees? Was there any other solution?
Y: As I told you, all these are common during development. We have to sacrifice something or the other. They could have thought about other solutions like developing the tracks in areas without trees rather than through parks like in RV road.
Sachin: Do you think the traffic problem will be really solved after this project? Or will it be just for the “status” of the city?
Y: Let me tell you something. I don’t like only one person travelling in a car. But that’s a matter of pride/status for them. So can’t help… I think this “can’t help” situation will continue even after metro. Cars still rules!
I don’t think the traffic problem as a whole will be solved. But it will be definitely reduced to some extent. Don’t forget that it does don’t go in all paths. Yes it’s also a matter of pride for most Bangaloreans.
Sachin: Hmm....
P.S: The interview may or may not be a figment of the author's thoughts :)
